In September 2008, Autodesk announced the move of AutoCAD to a cloud-based service called AutoCAD 360. The move to the cloud came without a release of the AutoCAD 2010 application or any other major upgrades to AutoCAD.

Before AutoCAD was introduced, most commercial CAD programs ran on mainframe computers or minicomputers, with each CAD operator (user) working at a separate graphics terminal. AutoCAD is also available as mobile and web apps.

Autodesk AutoCAD has been licensed in different versions since its initial release. The most recent release is AutoCAD 2018. The earliest version of AutoCAD was the 1985 1.0 release.

In 2010, Autodesk unveiled AutoCAD LT, a free edition of AutoCAD. It was later joined by AutoCAD LT for Windows, which added 2D-only capabilities. In 2014, AutoCAD LT was discontinued and the 2010 version of AutoCAD was made available for free on Windows, Mac OS, Linux, and Chrome OS.

Autodesk also offered AutoCAD Extended, a professional product for a fee. An enhanced version of AutoCAD, AutoCAD 2010 Extended replaced AutoCAD LT and added enhancements such as subsurface modeling and polygonal modeling.

Automated design

AutoCAD is designed for use by individuals and small companies in the design, development, construction, and maintenance of buildings, infrastructure, and automobiles. AutoCAD was not designed as a mass-market tool, however, although Autodesk does sell AutoCAD for Windows and other platforms as a mass market application.

AutoCAD is used by many people involved with infrastructure. It is used for the design of bridges, tunnels, and major buildings, and for the detailed design of manufactured products, such as cars, trucks, airplanes, and other industrial products. It is also used by engineers, architects, building designers, and other individuals or small companies who work on construction projects.

Types of project files

AutoCAD can create project files that can contain drawings, dimensions, and other objects to make up the design of a structure.

The project file is saved as a non-compressed project file format. A project file is an architectural design application. There are several types of project files:

Inline project files: These are project files that are saved in a directory that is

AutoCAD can also be used in a standalone mode without Internet access. This version is ideal for installations in environments where Internet access is difficult or non-existent.

AutoCAD is offered in two editions, AutoCAD LT, which supports a single user and AutoCAD LT Premier, which supports a maximum of four users. AutoCAD LT is based on a WYSIWYG design environment and is pre-installed on Microsoft Windows Operating Systems such as Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows Server 2008. Autodesk Exchange Apps can be added to AutoCAD LT to extend its functionality. AutoCAD LT Premier is an advanced, professional application which is capable of viewing and creating 3D drawings.

Previous versions were called AutoCAD, versions 2.5 and 3.5 and are based on the IPlot Drawing Engine technology.

Previous versions were called AutoCAD, version 2.0, released in 1999, AutoCAD, version 1.0, released in 1991, and AutoCAD Drawing, version 1.0, released in 1986.

AutoCAD Architecture

AutoCAD Architecture is a graphical software package for architectural design, analysis and documentation, creating 2D and 3D design and documentation drawings, graphical data and other rich media data. It is part of AutoCAD Architecture Design Suite, which consists of Autodesk Design Suite for Architecture. It is built on the Autodesk AutoCAD platform and is used by architects, interior designers, urban designers, engineers, construction and transportation professionals.

AutoCAD Architecture is not a CAD package. It was formerly named Architecture, and is no longer listed under AutoCAD Architecture on the Autodesk website.

AutoCAD Architecture allows users to create a 3D model of an existing building. The model can be rendered to create building blueprints and plans. Designers can also create a large number of models, from a building component to a structure model. In addition to creating models and building blueprints, users can import graphical files from SketchUp, Revit, ArchiCAD, 3D Studio Max, AutoCAD LT, and ArchiCAD.

AutoCAD Architecture for Windows supports a number of file formats, including DXF, DWG, DGN, DFX, DWG, DWF, DGN, and many others. The drawing formats it supports can be found here.
