Stage one is an incredibly basic and easy-to-understand build that helps you get the basics down and get into the flow of building characters and environment. Then, once you’ve covered that base, you can take it to the next level by adding dozens of features to make your Carvings extra special. It’s like having a game and a guidebook all in one.
But at first, Stage 1 feels like the real game. It’s still got its colorful and attractive look and feel, with its woodblock visuals and character models — and it’s still simple to understand. But Stage 1 also feels like it’s steering you towards a goal: getting to Stage 2 as quickly as possible. By the time you’ve gotten through Stage 1, it feels like you’ve already done your homework and have a good idea of how to get to the next stage. And if you make it to Stage 2, you’ll find that Stage 2 has already covered what Stage 1 didn’t. (Thankfully, there’s a way to skip through Stage 2 and get to Stage 3, but let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves.)
Stage 1’s second goal, then, is to teach you how to use the controls, which are as simple as you’d expect. The carver can use his or her left thumb to draw lines and objects.
