Created to minimize the impacts on the economy during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Emergency Aid program, which had its last installment paid in October 2021, gained a complementary quota. The Ministry of Citizenship announced the payment of a retroactive portion of the benefit to single-parent male heads of households, that is, parents who were already registered in the program in 2020 and who raise at least one person under the age of 18 alone, without the help of a spouse, partner or partner.
The retroactive amount to be paid will only refer to the first five installments of R$ 600 that were assigned at the beginning of the program and, therefore, can reach a benefit of BRL 3 thousand for the single father.
Why was the benefit extended?
During the first five months of Emergency Aid payments in 2020, only single mothers received the doubled portion of BRL 1,200 of the benefit, as the Bill that included single fathers head of household within the quota was vetoed by the President of the Republic.
However, in July last year, the National Congress overturned the veto, and on December 24, 2021, Provisional Measure 1084 was signed by the president, bringing back single male heads of single-parent families to the list of beneficiaries and granting a budget of Rs. $4.1 billion for the payment of new quotas.
How much and how will the aid be paid?
The retroactive payment will be calculated based on the installments paid in the first five months of the 2020 Emergency Aid, since, as seen, single parents did not receive the double amount, of R$ 1200, of the benefit that was granted to single mothers enrolled in the program. Single Registry during this period. That is, for beneficiaries who redeemed the five installments of R$600 in the first year of the program, the amount to be paid in 2022 will be R$3,000.
The government has not yet disclosed how or when the benefit will be released, but it is known that the payments should be granted later this year. Meanwhile, beneficiaries can check whether they will be entitled to aid through the link.
It is worth mentioning that this supplement will not be paid, if there is a woman in the family who has already been entitled to the double amount of aid in 2020.
